Introduction to Thai Dramas!

Introduction

No matter how much Korean dramas are famous in Thailand; still a lot of people in the country are the audiences of Thai Dramas or Thai soap operas. They are called "Lakorn" in Thailand.  Just like movies and dramas from other countries, they have different genres; drama, comedy, action, horror, etc.

Showing Time

There are three main channels that show Thai Dramas (although there are six channels on Thai Television); Channel 3, Channel 7 and Channel 5. The dramas mostly are started to show at 8:20 pm in the evening. For Channel 3 and 7, they show three dramas a week; one on Monday and Tuesday, one on Wednesday and Thursday; and one on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For these two Channels, each episode of the dramas finishes at 10:20 pm. For Channel 5, there was only one drama showing from Monday to Thursday and each episode finishes at 9:20 pm. However, starting from 2013, the channel show two dramas a week; one on Monday and Tuesday, and one on Wednesday and Thursday with each episode finishing at 10:00 pm.  There are also some minor Lakorns showing in the early evening at about 6:30 pm on weekends for some channels and weekdays on some channels. Another Thai channel, Channel 9 sometimes also show lakorns.

Negative Points!

There are some lakorns which are long without reasons. It seems that they just add episodes to get more ads, and then the ending is rushed. A lot of lakorns have very similar scripts. In present days, they use or promote new actors and actresses in the leading roles, and some of the actors and actresses cannot act well.

Positive Points!

There are a lot of good points of watching Thai dramas. One of the reason why I love watching lakorns is that they are quite different from series from Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. Dramas from those countries have a lot of similarities. Lakorns are a bit different from those series in style and scripts probably because the culture in Thailand. So, it keeps me interesting to watch lakorns. Besides, most lakorns have happy endings.
